Resources/Materials
- 5 Large sheets of paper
- Markers of different colours for each team
- Tape to stick sheets on wall
Result(s):
Sway/Powerpoint/Video presentation combining photos/films to be displayed online (see the results)
Timing: 1 ½ hour
Procedure
Ask all mixed-nation teams to draw up a list of stereotypes about the nationality they are in charge of, including their own country. For instance, if a team is in charge of Spain. Spanish pupils can also contribute to the list of stereotypes.
- Ask one student to lie on a large piece of paper. The other members of the team will draw his/her outline.
- Students symbolize the stereotypes by drawing on the outline. (eg, Spanish/ love sports: draw a football, French/ love food: baguette, Finns/ happiest people on earth: aura/smile…).
- Posters posted on wall.
- Teams present and explain their drawings.
- If time is left, pupils from other teams can add some extra drawings/texts related to stereotypes which have not been mentioned by their classmates.
Phase II - Presenting articles about partners
Teams: 5 national teams. Each national team consists of 4 subteams, 1 per country.
Resources/Materials
- 5 Large pieces of paper
- Markers of different colours for each team
- Tape to stick paper on wall
Result(s):
Sway/Powerpoint/Video presentation combining photos/films to be displayed online (see the results)
A blog with all articles about partners. (https://erasmusheadlines.blogspot.com/)
Timing: 1 ½ hour
Procedure
Before the meeting
- Each partner should select 2 most representative articles about each participating country accompanied by one picture.
- Uploaded them in the google drive. (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1HH3AM1oyXBTonENieiVs6nAkgXBF94Pe)
- The Greek team will print them in A3 format and stick them to the panel.
- The Greek team will construct 5 panels, 1 per country with all articles related to this country. For instance, the Finnish panel will have 8 articles, 2 by each partner and so on …
- Each partner should have already decided the pupils (subteams) who will present the 2 articles about each country. Have a mind that each partner should present shortly the 8 articles, 2 for each country.
During the meeting
- The 5 panels will be placed on a stage.
- The article presentations will be held per country. For instance, the Finnish panel will be placed on the stage and all partners (pupils who are in charge of this country) will present articles related to Finland. When the presentations of the articles are finished any questions will be asked and answered.
Do the articles contradict/strengthen the stereotypes about the country? Do they shed a new light on each partner country? What image of the country is conveyed? See the 6 key concepts in Media Analysis according to Scheibe, C. & Rogow, F. :
After Phase I and II
Finally, pupils of each country react to the stereotypes about their country commenting on the truth about what was told.
